  • It is one thing to come up with a website, but it is another to come up with a successful website. Basically, search engines are the brains behind the success of any website. Were it not for these search engines, I doubt it that the internet world would be as much a hit as it is today. In that case, it is wise that people get to know just how these search engines works. It is these search engines that help your site earn as much as it does. Therefore, it is compulsory to understand just how this happens.

In layman’s language, popular search engines are run by robots referred to as spiders, or as most people call them, ‘crawlers’. What happens is that most of the popular search engines offer you with a form in the form of a submission page. You are required to fill in this submission page after which it is believed that the ‘crawlers’ review the information you have submitted and get to index your webpage. The spiders are automated, meaning they require no manual control to perform their duties. They automatically scan the content of your website right after you submit the information. However, they do this with the help of the site’s Meta tags. Depending on how relevant the information turns out, the spiders redirect the information onto the directory of the respective search engine where it is indexed. In addition to that, they also get to scrutinize the different links on your web page and the information they hold. The links are also stored in the directory and play a part in the indexing of the webpage.

However, the spiders also have their limits. There are a specific number of web pages that the spiders can handle in each website. This is why it is advisable to create your website in such a way that it is short, yet rich in information. This will help you avoid spiders avoiding most of your web pages which might end up being costly in terms of your rankings. Preferably, let your website have a maximum of 14 web pages.

It does not end there; you are required to maintain the relevancy of your website throughout. Normally, the spider usually returns after a given period of time to go through all the stored information in the directory. This is in a bid to evaluate all the information that has been added to various websites or changed data. The period of time in which the spider returns varies in different search engines. This is because the number of moderators in various search engines varies.

Anyone who expects to get a favorable index should exercise a lot of patience. Most of these popular search engines index as many as a million web pages daily. Some even index more than this. You can imagine how long it will take to get your website ranked. Do not go for these get-ranked fast schemes; your site will end up ruined. You know what they say; patience pays!
